Remembering the summer fun

A foot of snow on the ground and slipping around on snow pack lends me to remember the fun I had this summer combining with the 18 pull type. Got to love the old equipment doing it's job.

Hey- Those model 18 combines do one heck of a good job dont they? I combined 15 acres of oats with mine this fall and sold it by the bag to horse , sheep and goat farmers. I had a lot of them comment on how clean the oats where, and wondered what kind of a setup I had for a grain cleaner? When I told them they where straight from the combine, they where amazed. One guy says to me, Boy you must have a good combine? I took him into the back end of the driving shed and showed him the old 18. He says "you gotta be joking" I assured him it was no joke that I had used it for the whole field and after it sitting idle before that for lord knows how many years it worked perfectly!

Same thing with my grandpa's old Gleaner vs. my uncle's wrong green 7720. The old AC does a lot better, but it's a lot slower too and it hurts the cash flow between the elevator and bank.
