Remote hydraulics 2600

I have a 2600 diesel which has a Bush Hog brand loader. It has an aluminum block bolted to the housing under the seat with 2 hydraulic hoses coming out of it which go to my loader. I have quick connects on the hoses so I can remove my loader and I hook the 2 hoses together so my lift works. That all works fine. What I am wanting is 2 more ports at the rear of the tractor for my log splitter. What do i need to do this and where can I buy it? Is there another block that can be stacked on top for 2 more ports? Will that work just stacking another block or will the pressure just bypass in the loader valve?

should be able to use a regular ford type remote valve on top of the aluminum block. I have installed 2 of the blocks under a remote valve that was already on the tractor. Just remove the 'factory plate' that should be on top of the block now. Be sure the 3 point arms are full down or oil will spray out when you loosen the bolts. I know from this from messy experience!
 
a standard top cover valve will stack on top of that block instead of the blank cover, if you wanted to go that way.. or you could plumb in a generic OC/PB capable valve into the diverted flow you aready have with that power beyond block.

probably cheaper to do it that way.. though from time to time you can get used dual spool top cover valves at decent prices, and it's just a bolt on deal with orings.

Just daisy chain the valves... Make sure that the valves are tandem center or 'power beyond' type of valves. Plumb the first line from the plate to the valve inlet, then plumb the inlet of the next valve back to the power beyond port on the first valve... then the power beyond port of the second valve back into the adapter plate on the cover. Then make up a return line for the the returns of both valves and plumb that back to sump somewhere, generally at the fill cover on the rear end.

Let's start with some simple questions to be sure that what they were assuming is correct.

1. Do you know what the factory plate looks like that was originally where your aluminum block is under the seat? If your answer is no, then please post pictures of your aluminum block with the hoses coming out of it.

2. If the answer to number 1 was yes, is that original factory plate on top of the aluminum block? If your answer to this is no, post pictures of your aluminum block with the hoses coming out of it, as that is what they were assuming when they made their replies.
 
Now for some clarification of the terms the other guys were throwing around. OC is "Open Center", which is the type of control valve that you have on the loader and hopefully have on the splitter. An open center valve will always allow fluid to flow through to the return line when it is not providing power to either side of the cylinders that it is controlling. PB is "Power Beyond", which is similar to an open center control valve except that it has 2 outlet lines, one is designated as "Power Beyond" and supplies power to another implement downstream of the first one, and the second line only provides a return path for the fluid being pushed out of one side of a cylinder when the valve is providing power to the other side of the cylinder. There is a third type of control valve, "Closed Center" (CC), which cannot be used with the hydraulics on these Ford tractors.

Some control valves can be reconfigured from OC to PB or to CC by means of switching out a "plug". The manufacturers of the valves supply the different plugs, so you would have to track down the make and model of your control valve to find out if it has the capability and whether the various plugs are still available.

Now that I've defined OC and PB, we're making a couple of more assumptions here. We assume that the loader that is already working has an OC control valve, as it pretty much has to to work with the hydraulics on that tractor. We're also assuming that the control valve on your splitter is an open center valve as well, otherwise you will need to replace it, as a closed center will not work, and I've never seen a PB valve on a splitter.

Here are a few of your choices:

1. You could remove the factory plate and replace it with a remote valve that was designed to do just that, replace the factory plate with a remote valve. The plate that's providing the power for you loader would stay as-is, but it would have a remote valve on top of it instead of the factory plate. You can't find these new any more, but you can find them used on ebay and at tractor salvage yards.

2. You could tie into the existing lines for your loader. If you don't want to buy a different control valve for your loader or convert it to PB, the easiest way would be to tie into the pressure line coming out of the aluminum plate with quick connects so that when you don't have the splitter connected the loader would be hooked up as it is now. It could also be done using the return line, but the pressure relief valve on the loader control valve could come into play if it's set a a lower pressure than the relief valve in the splitter.

3. You could replace the loader control valve, or the splitter control valve, with a "power beyond" control valve, or convert one of the existing control valves, either on the splitter or loader, to "power beyond" if either of them are capable of being converted. Then you could configure it into a proper power beyond setup.

You might want to just connect the splitter to the existing lines coming out of the plate as a test, because you may find that the 5.6gpm pump on your tractor won't operate a log splitter fast enough to meet your satisfaction, in which case a separate reservoir and PTO driven pump for the splitter would be something to consider.
 

All valves are open center. Rigt now I have quick disconnects on the loader hoses which I disconnect and hook to the splitter to use it, splitter has quick disconnect ends on the hoses. I just want to simplify the use of the splitter and not have to disconnct my loader lines every time. Splitter works fine with my tractor hyd., maybe just a little slower then a small engine powered splitter but not enough difference to matter.
So the best deal would be to find a valve which would mount on top of my existing block. And this valve is no longer sold new so I have to find a used one somewhere.

fwiw - hydraulic pumps come in two general categories -1 positive displacement: which means for every pump revolution, some fluid is coming out, or flow. period. it has to have somewhere to go or pump will damage. gear and piston pumps fall into this category. these systems require open center valving to allow the fluid to keep flowing. also this system needs resistance to develop pressure.
2 - variable displacement: this pump can be turning and not put out any flow, it maintains constant pressure (compensated). this system can use closed center valves.
 
A quick search and I found this remote valve on ebay

I'm not sure, but I think that you can use this selector valve in place of the factory top plate to supply power to the splitter, but I don't know if it has it's own return port, so you might have to plumb the return line directly to the rear end. It's only $199.00 and it's new.
 

If I put a remote valve on wouldn't the hydraulic pressure take the easiest path through the open centered valve on my loader and not send any pressure to the other lines? Or does it somehow shut the pressure off to the loader and direct it to my rear lines?
 
The valves are connected in series. If the first valve doesn't use the oil, it flows on to the next one. The first valve in the chain that is activated diverts the flow, preventing the next valves in the chain to operate until the first valve is returned to neutral. Normaly not a problem, as most of us have a limited number of limbs to operate valves :wink:
If you only intend to use the extra hydraulics to operate the log splitter or a single acting cylinder, you can use the Hydraulic flow control selector valve posted by Sean. I used to have this valve on my '83 4110. The return line from the splitter would need to be routed to the rear axle housing, on my tractor there is a coupling fitted to one of the oil filler plugs on the rear axle housing. The Hydraulic flow control selector valve selects if oil flow after your loader valve flows to the 3-point lift cylinder or the extra coupler on the rear. The flow is controlled by the 3-point lift handle. Handle up to get flow, and down to stop it. When the valve is engaged, the 3-point is locked, and can't be lifted or lowered.
 
As v240tic said, the plate that you already have is designed to make all of the vales in the system operate in series. The way that yours is configured now, with the aluminum plate driving the loader under the factory top plate, the loader gets power first, and then the return line from the loader goes back into the aluminum plate and the power then goes on to power the 3 point lift. Replacing the factory top plate with a remote valve should result in a similar setup with 3 control valves in series, the loader, the remote valve and the 3 point, but I'm not sure whether the remote valve would be before or after the loader.
