Remove Bevel Gear

I want to install a new oil seal (inner) in a high pressure hydraulic pump on a VAC tractor. Anyone had any experience with that?
I have a medium quality puller and have lightly driven wedges between the housing and the gear. It does not seem to budge. I don't want to break the gear. It is a keyed shaft and it should come off--right?? It seems that the eccentric on the shaft, will only come out the front end of the pump otherwise could leave the gear on and pull the shaft through. What say you??

May I suggest that you give SAELI Equipment a holler in Geneva NY and request a service manual. It will pay for itself on the project
