Can anyone guide me through removing DB fuel pump from my 630 case? Anything special to do before attempting removal? I have read that timing marks sometimes have to be aligned before removal but do not know. Any help is welcome. Thanks

much easier to align now,..you have a 188 diesel ,,. therefore check the flywheel mark thru the round hole about 4 or 7 o clock on the bell housing,.your motor is probably set between 4 -8 degrees before tdc .. upon finding this area , remove the screws from the small rectangular cover on the injector pump and chek for a solid red line , could also be black, when all marks are aligned on flywheel and injector pump , you are good to remove the pump ,DO NOT SPIN THE MOTOR UNTIL THE PUMP IS CORRECTLY REINSTALLED ,..mite be good to have a keen eye watching for the line while a helper spins the motor in the direction it runs .. reinstalling CAN BE TRICKY BECAUSE OF THE UMBRELLA SEALS,. get some super slik oil to aid the seals from roling and compromising there effectiveness ,,. misaligned seals will certainly allow fuel into the engine oil..

Central diesel injection had me send the input shaft with the pump and installed new seal with it. easy to install also only one way because of the key way.

As mentioned remove the two screw timing cover on the pump side, and turn the engine by hand to align the front retainer mark with the rear cam ring mark, then check to see where the flywheel marks are. Remove the lines and filter base as needed to remove the pump. When going back the rear pump seal can be a challenge but not bad, just need to be careful and not roll it over. The pump brass pilot tube is epoxied in the housing, I re-bevel the front of the new tube when it's replaced to make the pump installation much easier..
