Removing Tire Rim as one unit

My '48 B has cast centers with the lug nuts and wedges on the inside. I want to take off the tire/rim as one unit. There's a way to do this but I'm not sure what that way is. I suspect the position of the long notch on the outer edge of the cast center comes into play.

Anyone have some advice on how to do it?

Take all the clamps off and rotate the rim 90* at where that notch is and it will come off. Be careful it doesn't catch you off guard and fall on you.

Mike,
What you said is not clear to me. I was planning on rotating the wheel to get the notch to a certain position, then locking the brake and then removing the nuts and clamps. What position should the notch be put at, 12 o'clock, 3, 6 or 9 o'clock?

Agree.

This is on method.

First step is to "block" the front tires and opposite rear tire.

Next step is to lock the opposite brake, disengage the clutch, and shift transmission into neutral.

While raising the axle with the Mickey Mouse jack, put blocks underneath the drawbar for safety. Used oak blocks only because I couldn't locate any cinder blocks.

Next step is to move the Mickey Mouse jack out of the way and rotate the cast wheel so the "notch" is on top.

Next step is to slide a chain, with only one hook, through the "notch". Make sure chain does not touch the valve stem.

Next step is to secure the chain to the multi-purpose fork adapter/connector on the loader.

Next step is to remove all the rim clamps.

Next step is to "slowly" remove the rim from the wheel.

Reverse these steps to remount the rim/tire.

Even though the sickle mower was not being operated, a "temporary" PTO shield and drive shaft shield was installed for safety precautions.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the great reply James.

My cast center is different than yours and the clamps and nuts are on the inside so that when the rim comes off the center it's inside the center, not outside.

Wish my B was set up like your 50/60/70 in the pics.

Yes a B is different. Turn the tire and rim at an angle to the cast center when the rim is sitting in the casting notch. When in just the right spot it will go easily off. You have to keep the bottom of the tire on the ground and adjust the height of the tractor so it gives you clearance. Hard for me to explain in words what would take no time at all to show in person.

In your reply above you stated "[i:654c4848f0]rotate the rim 90* at where that notch is and it will come off[/i:654c4848f0]".

Take a look at the [b:654c4848f0]CAST AND PRESSED STEEL REAR WHEELS[/b:654c4848f0] diagram below.

Note that the notch is at 90o as you recommended.

Note the top of the cast center is parallel to the bottom of the rim bevel.

Note the two flanges are lower than the top part of the cast center.

If the flanges are lower than the top part of the cast center, then the bottom of the rim bevel will swivel.

This allows the rim to clear the flanges.

Hope this helps.

No that's not what I meant by 90*
The notch is where you need at the top or bottom to gain the needed clearance. The 90* was referencing instead of the tire on the rim being in the straight back and forth as when mounted you need to turn it so it faces to be more of a right and left direction.

When they are mounted in the manner as this picture they will very easily come off to the outside. No twisting needed.
