I cracked the top cover of my John Deere 830 injector pump. Can anyone tell me what kind of metal it made of. Pot metal ?

The next question is, Can it be welded? I weld cast aluminum almost every week. Some can, some can't. 50 -50 chance. It would be a chore to get that thing cleaned up to even try. Aluminum has to be clean enough to eat off of to weld. Soak it in Carburetor cleaner. Then hot water and then heat it up with a heat gun. You might get lucky and weld it, My suggestion is to find a new cover.

I probably have a good cover on hand.

Curt, welcome to YT! Looking at your other post you say “put a new injector pump on” what happened to that one? Or maybe new meant used? A picture of the area of where the break is might help us determine what kind of fix is required, I see some JB weld or epoxy goobed on a line or something back there. In all reality if that cover is broke, really the only fix is to replace it. You can start a direct “conversation” with Dieseltech by viewing his profile out to the side on a PC hover over it and you will see it at the bottom of the box that pops up. Also remove that mounting nut and put a washer under it or you might also have a broken pump body on your hands. Do the same at the other two mount studs if they are the same way. Also if you are going to replace that cover get a can of brake clean and clean the top of the pump sp_c and span, if crud falls in there when you have it open you will have more problems.

Did a fellow with a last name of Roush from West Virginia call you about an injector pump off a Massey ? I told him to give you a call, it's been sitting for some years and I do believe it's English made but not sure about it
