Looking ahead since my 2013 Silverado 1/2 ton with 223,000 miles on it is still doing well(nothing major yet).the problems I’m hearing about the newer trucks engines breaking down prematurely has me thinking repair/replace what’s needed and hold on to my ‘13.which is better;overhaul or replace my engine down the road IF it goes out?I live in Louisiana so absolutely no rust on the body and suspension is fine too.I had the V-8-6-4 deleted by the way

Here is one thought. Establish and finance a sinking fund for the next 10 years to the tune of $100.00 a month. You should have 350,000 miles and getting close to a rebuild. Have a reputable local builder give an opinion on rebuild. In the past I've had good luck with Goodwrench engines, GM discontinued the Goodwrench brand so not an option.

You have done well so far. Change the oil often. It's the AFM lifters that are a problem. Cross that bridge if you get there. You might get another 75k or more out of her.

I have several still on the road one has 600K on the clock. The bad its on its 3rd engine lifter issues got it two times engines last about 250K its never been deleted. The first engine lifters got it at 250K a used engine with 100K was installed (I refused to put a used engine in it this is why) the used engine went out at 500K (250K on the used engine). He then understood why I refused to install a used engine when the used engine expired he let me install a GM reman.

Its tempting to go with a Jasper reman the issue is I am part of the responsible party I am married to it : (. I like to use GM engines they have a 3 year 100K warranty GM is responsible for warranty repairs I am done it with : ). The last Jasper engine I installed had issues before it left the bay Jasper would not send me a replacement engine until I made an attempted to fix their fudge up. Their warranty pay was not enough to pay my labor expense I lost 10 plus hours of billable labor time. You can not make up lost time its lost forever. This will hold true with all other venues that why I go GM its their problem.

I recommend you repair and keep your 13 on the road as a replacement will have the same issues new does not mean you will not have to repair it. If I were to replace the engine it would get all what I call support parts replaced with OEM parts. The cooling system especially all hoses, water pump, thermostat, motor mounts, exhaust parts, belts idlers and tensioners all OEM parts. Off the top of my head I don't know where the knock sensors are located on that engine if in the intake valley add $300 to that job.

Anyone thats been in the business long has seen these parts fail after a engine replacement and kill a engine. The installer had that part in his hand because he had to bid the job cheap to get the job he did not figure in support parts. There is no cheap way out if you go cheap you will pay for it down the road I grantee it.

Good advice, still even if it costs 10 grand or more for engine and transmission replacement it beats 70 grand for a new one
