Replace rear valve stem needle?

Case 970, have a rear valve stem that is slowly leaking from what seems to be the needle. Not liquid filled, just air. Assuming it hasn't been touched in decades, can I just spin the old one out and replace it or will I have bigger problems on my hand? Is there any particular needle I would need to get or are they pretty universal?

Replacing the whole valve stem is the best. Not just the inner core. There is two styles. The old style had the male threads on the tube. Your tractor would have the more common style with the female threads in the tube. There is a little rubber o ring on this style. I like to have the valve stem at the top when replacing them especially with fluid it’s a for sure thing. You can try only the inner core since u have no fluid to deal with.

Guessing you have a tube type tire, so you will not be replacing the valve stem, unless things go bad. You would replace the valve core housing which has the replaceable Schrader valve in it. The stem in the picture uses the new style valve core housing. The older style has a smaller, externally threaded neck above the threaded section where the rim nut goes.

This is what's on there. I'm thinking it would be a mess if I try and get that off. I put a valve cap on, which seems to have stopped the leak for the moment

Just air at present is good. I would say it had calcium in it at some point from the looks of the rim around the hole.

That is a tube in the tire which has a stem similar to the stem in the picture I posted for you. The tube stem is held by the nylon nut to prevent it from dropping back inside when the tube is deflated. The best I can see you have the CH3 valve core adapter. You can get a new valve core housing and change it if you want. Grip the knurled area with pliers and it should unscrew. The other option is to just change the Scrader valve inside that core housing, just like you do in a regular tube or tubeless tire stem.

"IF" you end up removing the outer valve components,be sure to use a back up tool (pliers) to hold the main body that is attached to the inner tube! Do not squeeze the valve stem housing like some Neanderthal, you shall end up in deep shiett. I always work the outer valve housing CCW then CW,with added KROIL penetrating fluid.
I've changed out these migraine causing valves many times on old Vintage equipment.

Yes that’s the old style valve stem housing as I was referring to. I just did not call it a housing as they know what I am talking about when I go into the tire chop to buy them.
