Replacement coulters

Some of my coulters are junk and I should really replace them. The plow is your standard, old 3-14 trailer plow. I don't rally know what model it is. What size should they be? Are any new parts available?

they look like IH #8 plows , shouldnt be to hard to find used parts for these , they built lots of them , & most coulters will fit
with the right brackets

You have a #8 "Little Genius". If you beat the bushes you probably will find good coulters on a #8 rusting away in "the weeds" somewhere. What do you mean the coulters are "junk"? As they wear they slowly decrease in diameter, and if they are dull or have damage to the edge you can grind a new edge on them. Maybe give the zirks a shot of grease to help them rotate better?

If you live near Wisconsin you can always sell it to me!

I also use my JD mower to pull my plows around the yard....tempted to pull the trip rope and see how far I get!!

You need to use AV gas. The stuff that is 104 on the chart! ha ha I did that one time long ago with the little 1964 John Deere 110 mower. Hooked a green chop wagon to it. Now when they are empty and on flat ground you can tow them. JUST, but you can move them. The lane goes up just a little bit along and the 110 came to a stop.

There were different sizes and either smooth or ripple many options are the bearings shot so the blade can wobble if so they are shot as the bushings used probably arent available any more take one apart then you will know better just what you have you miteuse sommaterial from a can to tighten up the worn bushings.

Yeah right! NOTHING is for sale around here!!! I sold a PERFECT 2-16 for $250 I have hated myself for 10+ years over that one.

Sorry, you can't see it but this one has all three coulters. I just need the big round disc part. Mine are very worn down and I think it might flow trash better if I don't have to run the frogs so close to the ground. How big should the coulter be? The neighbor took some worn coulters off his side dresser and I may try rigging them onto my plow.

If you just need the disks, they are easy to find. Take one apart, measure the center hole. Shoups, Agri-supply, and others has replacements. Drill holes to match the hubs.

Yeah, but what was the original diameter? Most coulters today are 18" or bigger and way too large for a little plow like this.

Also good luck trying to drill into a coulter. It's hardened steel. I think they're softer on the inside, but that outer hard shell is impenetrable with anything but a cutting torch.

We were going to try a punch. I doubt a drill bit will fly.

How big are originals supposed to be?

I can't see 3 coulters in your picture, in fact I can't see 3 bottoms.

Regular equipment on most #8 plows were 16-inch plain coulters. Options were 18-inch plain and notched in 16- or 18-inch sizes.

You are correct. I was wondering how it hadn't come up yet. That is my 2 bottom, but the three bottom is the same thing.
