Replacement Harness MF245

I have been requested to help rewire a 1976 MF245 Diesel where the wiring got hot enough to start a small fire. I can find harnesses from India that aren't expensive but lack any good reviews. Has anyone faced this or know of a source for a harness? The tractor is located about an hour from any parts stores so any information provided would certainly be helpful. I hope to be able to show up with everything necessary to get it running.

Thanks in Advance,

Aaron

Where was the fire? Did all the wiring burn or just one area? Do you know if any gauges, or other electrical components, were compromised?

Do you have the wiring diagram for it? You will want that whether you get a harness or rewire it yourself, in case there are issues.

Not trying to talk you out of getting a harness, I'm just throwing an option out. If price is an issue, it comes down to what you are comfortable doing. I have recently rewired a 245 and a 255, there really is not a lot to them. I would get a 25 feet of 12 gauge, several rolls of different colors of 14 gauge, some 3/8" and 1/2" wire loom, a couple rolls of tape, some nylon cable ties, and my wiring terminal kit for supplies. Those along with the Operator's manual, which has the wiring diagram in it and rewire it. They aren't that complicated, especially if it doesn't have lights.

I know this is an older post.but looks like I'm going to have to redue mine to.did you find one?
As the info that was given to the original poster in this thread; Brillman and Agri-Services are two of the biggest players for harnesses. You can contact them.

You can use this link to go to the AGCO site where you can use the parts books.

AGCO parts

Click on Parts Book.

Type MF 245 in the model search box.

There is a serial number break in the MF 245 production, and you will see two parts books to choose from, pick the one with the serial number range that includes your 245 serial number. Gas and diesel harnesses are different and there are generally several harness sections in a tractor. You can use the book to find the part number(s) for the harness(es) you need. Use the part numbers in a web search to see if other places have them or call your MF/AGCO dealer.

As I posted above, I would not buy a harness, there is not that much to a MF 245 harness. The correct Operator's manual for your tractor will have the wiring diagram in it.
