Replacement Water Pumps- 8N Sidemt

Well, my water pump on my late '50 8N crapped out. I got a new one from nnalert, and it's causing me a major problem. The outlet that comes off at an angle right next to the Genny/Alternator that the lower radiator hose connects to is too long, by at least 3/4". Because of this, my alternator can't be pivoted far enough in towards the block for the belt to fit on it without the alternator housing rubbing on the waterpump outlet... and I've gone through literally 5 different belts from NAPA trying to find the right length one. They're all either too short, or too long...

In addition, the mounts for the fan on the waterpump pulley put the fan a bit closer to the radiator, leaving about 1/2" clearance between the fan and the radiator, making it a b**** to get the belt on there....

Anyone else had this problem, and anyone recommend either a) a better replacement water pump or b) a good place to get a rebuild kit for my old one?

Ken......even tho they sell waterpump rebuild kits, DON'T!!! you ain't gott the PRESS to putter together.

As fer yer water hoze being 3/4" too long, sharp knife works wonders, eh?

Make certain you have the "correct" lower radiator hoze with extra bulge for belt clearance. There are 2-lower radiator hozes being sold for 8N's. caveat emptor, eh Brutus? ........Dell

Call nnalert. Derrick and Don work on tractors and know they are talking about. If you have a problem with a part you purchased from them they will make it right.

Same thing happened to me ('52 8N) Must be this darn heatwave huh?

I replaced mine last night with one from this website. Fits fine, and I reused the old metal backplate. Cleaned up everything REALLY good, smeared some red RTV in just the right spots and put it all back together. Seems to fit OK and I reused both radiator hoses.

Mine still uses the 6V generator with the tin bracket. An alternator is wider, so this might be part of the problem you are encountering.

Ken.....we haven't had that problem with our water pumps before, but maybe we do now.However,if you have the correct mounting brackets for your alternator,the belt [8n8620] should remain the same as with the 6v system for the side mount distributor tractors. don b1
