Replacing brake hardware question.

So you haven't tried the HTI unit. FLIR quality is good, the company and price both not-so-good. The other brands such as HTI are high quality and a standalone handheld unit you just pickup, turn on and use is vastly superior to a cell phone attachment. I'll note that the HT-18 uses a standard 18650 cell and has a very long run time. The screen resolution is excellent and the pics/vids it records are also excellent. Since I got the HT-18 I use it very frequently, including to check brakes, wheel bearings, A/C and electrical panels, just grab and go easy and yes, it readily shows latent heat hand and footprints too.

My luck has not been good with thermal imaging cameras. The first one I brought was the FLIR ONE it worked great till I brought a new phone. I would have to look again I found in setting's my phone does not have the required setting to use the FLIR. I brought a Matco handheld its OK but not a FLIR. I would have to see the HT1 in action I will see if I can return it if not happy.

I will agree a dedicated unit is better than a cell phone option if for noting else battery life.

I'd like to have a flir to use around the farm to see what wild animals are roaming around at night. Don't want to spend more than a hundred bux for occasional use so that may not happen for a while.

Where in NC are you. Spent a few years with the 82nd back in the day.

Sanford. I just went down Bragg blvd all the way into downtown Fayetteville Saturday the Blvd its a ghost town now. There use to not be much between sanford and Spring Lake its all built up now. I drank a many PBR in Fayetteville it was the beer of the town (are the cheapest) every bar had it on tap. (50 years ago)

The HT-18 is available on Amazon so easy returns. The newer variant of the HT-18 has slightly higher resolution and higher frame rate. I'm quite happy with my HT-18.

It has various options for different false color palettes, greyscale, blend with a visible image, etc. I mostly use the default false color and no visible blending.

Thermal cameras are affordable now, ~$300. Look at the HTI HT-18 and I think a successor HT-18B? They have higher res models for more $$ but the HT-18 is very good and more than sufficient for the job. Avoid overpriced and overhyped FLIR stuff as well as any ad-ons for cell phones, a self contained standalone unit is vastly more useable.

I could see where the thermal camera's would help a lot with cooling system diagnosis. That price is cheap enough. With brakes, I just want to know the side to side difference as Hobo mentioned.

You can teach this all day long, read technical articles till ell freezes over spend the day watching Youtube the best teacher is failure. If you want to beat the odds you learn to find the issue attach it before it attach's you.

Yes I have failed its no fun to see a comeback you could have prevented.

Simple job.

Place the pads in the bracket against the rotor.

Install the clips in the pads facing each other.

Slide the caliper over the pads and install the slider bolts.

Simple as that...
