Replacing the push button starter switch on a Ford 640?

Could someone please tell me what is involved in replacing the push-button starter switch on a Ford 640? I need to replace mine and I am wondering if the whole shifter cover-plate must be removed to access a retaining nut underneath or if it just threads into the plate.

Thanks much,

Charlie P.

Yep you have to pull the shifter cover off. Not all that big a deal. Put it in neutral pull the cover replace switch. Put cover back on making sure to get the shifter fork back in the right place. Sounds hard but not really all that big a deal

Make sure you put a thin o-ring or gasket on the bottom between the washer and the the cover if you don't it will leak.

fellow listmember bruce and i did a good write up on this procedure, it ran in the n-news, a great ford publication. here is a link to the article... ps.. the n-news is full of good stuff.. you might want to subscribe to them..
