Return line for hydraulics

Hi
Want a return for the hydraulic oil. Both on my mf35 and fordson super major. Want to operate a to way cyl on a flail mower. So just need to set its position once in a while. It has two hoses, so need a place for the return hose. I can always switch the two when wanting to go in other direction.
The only return I can see others are using is the filler hole next to the gear shifter on the mf35 and the filler plug at the back on the fordson. But where do you get a filler plug with 3/8 thread in the middle of it?

Sounds like you are working with a double acting cylinder. Those really need the pressure held on both sides to stay in position, not swapping them and porting the non-pressure side, at the time, to the reservoir. You should be setting up with a single spool double acting valve with both cylinder hoses through remote couplers, going to the valve work ports, the supply to the inlet of the valve and the return from the valve to the reservoir. It sounds like you may have a single remote coupling right now. You can supply the new valve from your remote, but it will need to be engaged to operate the new valve. Someone will be a long with the exact parts you need but I am quite sure there is an adapter block and valve you can add to your 35 to give you a working double acting remote system. I attached a link to the one in the YT store I think you need, below. The Fordson Super Major may be different, and you might want ask about that on the Fordson Forum on this site.

Yes it may not be the correct way to do it. But it seems to ok since it isn't so uncommon to see the return go to the filler plug.

The kit like you link to would be nice.
Expenses never ends with thee old tractors :?

I guess you mean this one. But my manual says it is a take off point with pressure.

You can easily find a threaded reducer, that goes from the size of your plug threads, down to 3/8 pipe threads at most hardware stores. If it's the return line, you can even use brass, but use steel if it's subjected to the full hydraulic pressure. Here's one that goes from 3/4 NPT to 3/8 NPT:

If you need it to be 3/8 male threads, just screw in a short threaded nipple.

NO! NOT EITHER ONE! There should be a 3/8 Allen plug under the seat on the left side of the lift cover about half way back. The ones you have pointed out are PRESSURE
ports, NOT return ports.

Yes found it under the dirt. Think she needs a bath :) Thanks.

Yes, it sounds like you need the remote valve set up for the MF. Our 1956 Major had a valve that replaced a plate located on the top of the casting just under the front of the seat. The lever that operated the remote stuck out to the right side. Dad bought the valve to operate a JD KBA 10-foot disk. It had an annoying operational characteristic. When you raised the disk all the way up when it hit the stop the hydraulics would release and drop the disk. I learned later on this site that the main relief valve was adjusted wrong in relation to the relief in the remote cylinder adaptor.
