Right color?

I cleaned and repainted my rear rims and centers for my 8N and I'm wondering is this the correct color for the centers? The paint is from Just 8N's, Ford Medium Gray, just looks a little more tan than gray to me. I'm trying to match the colors it rolled out of the factory with.

My preferance would be the light grey.I have been trying to get good colors for 49 8N.I think I may have the correct red, next is the grey i also want the color it came out the factor door and sent to our farm new in 1949.But i think I will go with the liter grey unless I find out A positive color for it .Tractor show this weekend in Fredricks burg Texas Maybe I"ll find out there. If I find out I will try to post George [South Texas]

It looks like extremely light green to me. You may want to contact external_link with your photos and see what they think. They were restoring Ns last I heard and should be able tell ya. Also I got N paints at my local ACE Hardware. I live in a farming area and they carry imp paint. I have done 2 8Ns with it and think its as close as the high tag stuff.

sherwin williams #u7-48778 basecoat sw can make it in single stage paint if you whant its a match to the grey i can email you pics of the color on our 8n

Just 8 N's Tisco paint is spot on. (See my Just 8 N's paint below). But we will have trouble judging from pictures if your camera has a tendency to be off (many are) or if computer monitor is off (many are). Also note the ambient light...wheel on left looks different because of the light. Can you get a picture in daylight? Also be aware that the ford grey has a slight olive tint in certain light.

that color looks like the factory color on my jubilee, which used the same wheels and rims, i think the 8n was light grey but i have seen a few 8n's that had this color, and i dont know if there was a running change on the assembly line toward the end of 8n production on the color or not maybe others will know

The Ford gray sold now is the color for the 100 series and up. The 8N,Jubilee and NAA used a tannish/olive gray color. The 9N and 2N used a machinery gray. (left over from painting the machinery when he built the Rogue River plant.
Henry was not one to waste anything.

If they sent you TP-240 (tisco) it should be the correct color. Are it use to are I did not get the number correct (what # did they send).... Are if you have a I&T FO-4 repair manual the gray on the cover is the correct color...

If you want to go for the kill and use the good stuff,,,,
Martin Senour M2J957 for the grey... DEAD MATCH... You will have to spray it tho...

Its hard to say by you pix the color will change depending on the light sometimes in different light the olive green stands out... In time it will not stand out that's why folks have a hard time with the color once it fades...

I bought an old somewhat rusty 51 this winter and cleaned it up. I bought the original medium gray but didn't like the green tint to it. I ended up with the 65 and newer light gray and it matches what the previous owner had used anyway. Just remember, its your tractor and you can paint it whatever you like.

Let the numbers do the talking.

Made samples of TISCO TP240SP, NH M1J-957-SE5DS (39/62) Valspar 533-13 FRD GRAY, & TSC/Majic 8-22967 Light Ford Gray on 1"x 1" x 1/4" aluminum.

Had the samples analyzed on a spectrum analyzer at Home Depot.

By eye the TISCO TP240SP has the greatest green hue and is greener than the NH 39/62.

The Valspar and TSC Ford gray have no green hue.

Also had the back side of the air inlet flange analyzed at Home Depot on the spectrum analyzer.

The NH 39/62 sample is nearly an exact match to factory air cleaner color.

The TISCO contains 58% yellow and 2% violet.
Violet is on the blue side of true red.
Geen hue is generated from red and yellow primary colors. So the numbers show that the TISCO paint has a green hue.

The air cleaner contains 42% yellow and 4% bright red. The air cleaner flange is slightly less green than the TISCO as evidenced by the spectrum analaysis.

The NH 39/62 is 25% red and 62% violet, 9% bright yellow. By eye the NH 39/62 color is nearly an exact match to the original air cleaner color.

The valspar FRD Gray is 9% bright yellow and 67% brown. There is no red dye in this paint which means there is no green hue.

The TSC Light Ford gray is 4% bright yellow,4% blue, 92% brown. Again, there is no red dye in this paint which means there is no green hue.

By eye the Valspar & TSC are identical in color.
However, the Valpsar is far superior to the New Majic brand of TSC since its contains much more hardening agent, the most expensive incredient in spray paint.

Valspar makes the NH paint and is only available through NH dealers because of licensing based ona conversation with Valspar in Moline, Ill.

Personally I prefer the Rustoleum Smoke gray enamel which is on the blue side of true gray.
rather than the green side of true grey.
Smoke grey is availble in spray can, quart and half pint.
Rustoleum makes a light and dark machinery gray but the light is only available in one gallon pales and spray can. The dark machinery grey is only available in spray can. Rustoleum has discontinued the charcoal gray color which is similar in color to the Valspar MF Gray, still available The main problem I have with Rustoleum spray is that it orange peals, easily, compared to he Valspar tractor and implement spray paint.

Valspar "ARMOR" oil based enamel can also be color matched to any color.

Planning on color matching it to the Valspar spray can 5339-13 FRD GRAY which is a light gray.
