Rim lock question

My son and I were working on a Massey 180 and a 65 getting good back wheels on both and found there are two different types of rim locks on the power adjust wheels, one where the holes are drilled perpendicular to the rail and one where the holes are drilled at an angle through the rail, why the difference?

Are you sure they are both locks. The one on the left looks like the stop, with the one on the right being the actual lock.

Stop or lock, I'm using the definition loosely, they both appear to preform the same function on two separate sets of rims, but I'm not familiar with power adjust rims in person.

Just different manufacturers from what I have been able to find. Some drilled the rails on an angle and some drilled perpendicular. The different locks would set closer to the wedges/clamps to minimize movement if the rim slipped. I have seen the one drilled on the angle call a 6-sided stop.

My MF 65 has the style on the right. It also has a stop which just goes over the rail and has a pin that goes through the rail. I believe it is used when adjusting the wheels to get an actual width. Set the stop spin the wheel against the stop and tighten the locks. It was an adventure getting my locks all loose. Now, I have had some trouble getting the locks to stay tight. Nothing is more annoying than having the wheels self-adjust during use.
