Robert's Carburetor Repair Problem?

Anyone had a problem with Robert's Carburetor Repair this year? Their web site still says 15 weeks to rebuild a carb. They have had mine since Feb 14. In May they said it was running 27 weeks to rebuild. Then at end of Aug. they said it would be done first week of Sept. First week of Oct they said it was in pieces and would be done by end of that week. Last week of Oct and they are not answering my emails. Any suggestions would be appreciated as I still have not heard from them and have not received my carb.

I think they moved to a new shop sometime this summer, heard rumors that they may have been sold but don't know if that is true or not.

R Wilson,
I believe they moved from their old shop into another building recently - that would have interferred with their schedule.

440 sixpack,
Robert Beaver sold the business in January 2007 to Gary Hoefling of Spencer, IA who runs a tractor repair business named The Motor Works. He built a new building recently and the carburetor repair business also moved in there.

They did mention that they had just moved into a new building in their Aug 26 email response to one of my inquiries. In the same email they promised that my carb would be done first week of Sept. Then Oct 1 they responed to my inquiry and said that it was apart and would be done by end of that week. Now it is almost Nov and they will not answer my email. Mr. Beaver needs to demand that they remove his name and picture from the current web site. I would never have sent my carb to them if I had know the business had been sold as the web site did not mention the fact.

Called them in September to see how long it would take. They said around the New Year.Sent the carb to Denny's back in a week.

Just hard for me to grasp that there are that many carbs. needing rebuilt especially at those prices !

For future reference...Try Burrey Carburetor in Fort Wayne, Indiana. They've always done a great job for me...even AFTER Doug Burrey sold to Kurt and Mindy (new owners).

I also sent my DLTX-51 carb to K&K. Had it back in a week. Sent my cam to Robert's, took them 6 weeks to get it back to me.

(quoted from post at 21:58:52 10/28/08) In the week that Denny had it, did he do anything to it besides paint it black and put a sticker on it?

I sent 4 carbs to Denny's last year based on their ad in the Two Cylinder club magazine. I should have done my research on the net before making that mistake. They charged me more than what I could buy rebuilt carbs from reputable dealers for with NO core.

They also damaged one of my USB carbs. They broke off a piece of the flange and rewelded it (not a great weld job either as it is cracked). Of course, they said "it must have come that way", but I took pictures of the carbs before I boxed them up and paid insurance for shipping them FedEX. You can tell they must have welded it after the rebuild as the one new brass plugs is slightly deformed from having the heat from the weld process so close. I tried very politely to work it out with them, but they refused to acknowledge any fault. So, they will never get my business again.

Well he painted it green and put a sticker and white lines on all the bolts, etc to see it if it is tampered with to void the warranty.Oh yeah, forgot the free inline fuel filter.

I received email today, Oct 29 saying that carb was in pieces, cleaned, and painted and a lecture on how they would never intentionally mislead a customer and that they were very proud of their reputation in the industry. That means that it took them over a month to just paint the carb body as on Oct 1 they said it was already in pieces and cleaned! The rest are only words on a paper at this point nothing more. The tone of their email got me so upset that I just spent four hours composing a long and detailed reply of why at this time I was 100% disappointed as their customer. They also said once again that it would be completed and shipped next week. We shall see.

I went thru the same thing two or three years ago. Promised it back in 12 weeks, 20 weeks later they said they were 4 weeks out. I didn't like their attitude either. They had a good reputation at the time but the service I got was lousy. That was my first and last dealings with them. They seem to have more business than they can handle and that's a problem I can help them with!
"Just say want you'll do and do what you say." That's a simple request but it seems to be too much to ask of some people.
