Rock Auto question

I must live in the right place then.I find Rock Auto to be more than I can buy locally for most alll of the time and have never bought from them. With shipping in the mix they were out of the ball park for price. I usually got to a local guy that has most parts on the shelf or can get them pretty soon. this is for older vehicles like a 05 escape or a 1994 dodge dakota. the escape is not runnning anymore and will be junked soon. I also have a good parts guy with his place for truck parts so I usually get them from him for the semi.

The rotor wore so thin the caliper poped apart. Blew out and all fluid came out. And I am not looking for long term warenty as I figure if I get 5-7,000 mile yet out of the truck it will be in scrap yard at that time. And so far I found rotors at a junk yard for $130.75 and the truck is not worth those prices. Orileys rotor priced at $94.99They came up with total price for pads rear rotators and calipers at $1.427.33. I cannot afford that on a truck that I could only seel for salvage price.

The parts I found earlier I cannot even find now. If I could get parts for price I found earlier I would not have to scrap the truck. And not sure from the listing if the calipers would even have fit. It is a 2003 Dakota 4.7 automatic 4 wheel drive and I need both rotorts, calipers and pads. It does not get heavy use of long distance driving andabout 50 MPH all the faster it gets. So any good sugestings, Orileys came up with wanting $1, 427.33 for the parts I need. So looking for away to use the truck foe a while yet for half that.

Auto Zone came up even higher that Orileys. And if I can get it thru next winter before it goes to scrap I will be satified. So long term warentys don't mean anything to me. Don't expect truck to get 5,000 miles yet.

Check out Detroit Axle. They have deals from bargain basement up to premium parts. Free shipping if I remember correctly. Just a thought. I've ordered lots of parts from them over the years. No complaints.

Thats crazy that the parts were cheaper separately. Maybe the package deal had better parts. I know it came with ceramic pads.
I will check out Walmart. I also put all my cars in Rockautos save section and youll get incredible close out deals.

Use Rock Auto a lot - very quick to compare to other web based retailers and find out who has the best prices.

Never have shipped back a core to Rock Auto - in each instance throwing the core in the trash was money ahead compared to shipping it (and buying the same item from a different retailer).

I bought a starter from them and I just put the old starter back in the box and put on the shipping label that they provided. There was no extra shipping charges.

Rock Auto appears to have good prices, until you put them in your cart and find out they'll be shipping from multiple warehouses, each with their own shipping charge. Rock Auto is just a drop shipper, they don't actually have anything on hand. I only buy rare parts from them for that reason. Their way of shipping usually puts common stuff within a few dollars of local, at least in my experience. They also sell counterfeit stuff, you have to watch what you buy. I had a customer order an AC Delco part and bring it it, and it was clearly a Dorman marked part in the box (which worked as well as most Dorman parts, not well).

A similar option is Carparts.com. They used to be called parts train. I have purchased from them a number of times. The site prompts you through very readily.

When I buy calipers from Rock, I've always bought new calipers that have no core charge. If you scroll down to the bottom of the calipers listed for your vehicle, you'll see the new calipers listed; the options are Cardone and Ultra-Power. For your truck there are cheaper reman options, but I've found I can buy new Delco calipers from Rock cheaper than Delco reman calipers.

I don't know about your truck, but generally speaking when you replace a PCM it has to be re-programmed at the dealer. Are you sure yours is bad? BTW, they list the (out of stock) PCM under electrical parts.

Using the info you gave, at Advance auto

Decent set of brake pads not elcheapo $45, I never look at the cheap pads. There Gold pad has served me well
Rotor $80
Caliper $55

Both sides $315 if you order online you get 15% off. Free pick up in store.

ECM, you are on your own I would not supply one for a customer you buy it you deal with it.

I've gotten many parts for my '69 Chevy p/u at RA (don't tell my friends that work at O'Reilly's corporate). Kinda hard to find some parts elsewhere. Usually a selection to choose from and good prices. Did an entire brake job--MC to drums--from them. If I need yesterday or just a few piddly things, I look locally first. If not, RA and LMC* get much of my business.

* I try to reward LMC for their decent customer service and their [i:90915eb663]superb[/i:90915eb663] catalog. I have the factory manuals for my truck, but LMC parts diagrams come in very handy at times.

repair shop tester actually 2 places come up with bad PCM and I have a miss-skip while running. Not a mechanic so don't understand that much about them. Question on the calipers all the different ones supposed to fit show different units in picture so what is the story why they all look different?

(quoted from post at 12:36:49 04/18/23) Rockauto is only a third party call center selling parts warehoused/made by others.

Google earth their location and you will see.

That's not proof of anything. Many companies house their call centers, and/or corporate headquarters, separately from their warehouses, and have multiple regional warehouses.

Do you think Amazon is all in one building?

Before ordering from Rock, check the same parts online at AutoZone. Although the stores only stock the AZ house brand parts (which I don't use), you can often get name-brand parts from their web site and have them shipped to a store or your house for about the same as Rock. They'll come from a nearby AZ warehouse, so you may get them faster than you would from Rock.

> repair shop tester actually 2 places come up with bad PCM and I have a miss-skip while running.

If the shop says it's bad, let them replace it and re-program it. And eat the cost if that doesn't fix the problem.

> Question on the calipers all the different ones supposed to fit show different units in picture so what is the story why they all look different?

Well, some are rear calipers. And some include the mounting bracket.

Hobo, I just got the print out from them on the 14th. It confuses me with list and cost extended. Rotor at list 141.10, cost 90.94
extended 191.88. Caliper at 122.26 list and cost78.99 extended 78.99, looks like 2 different ones at that price and then one at 91.58
list cost 67.99 and extended at 57.99 . Pads at 48.41, 35.60 and 35.69. This has me all confused. And how do you order on line?
Counter person seemed a bit confused as to what I needed. And core at either $40.00 or $ 55.00 And their print out comes to with tax
to $ 955.47 More than I can afford. If I could come up with something for like that $3.15 I could do that. SS doesn't go far and
getting close to 80 cannot put a lot in truck as probably not going to be around much longer to be driving. Do different stores have
different pricing? I am in northwest Ohio and prices I got were Kenton, Ohio.

They handle millions of parts, and don't have pictures of everything, so they use stock photos. What you see is a picture of A caliper, not necessarily THE caliper you will be getting.
