rod connectors

dumb question, what is the part called that bolts the connector rod to the crankshaft, also it looks like that part is not symmetrical, is there a certain way it goes on or does it not matter, it's the closest rod to the radiator, thanks

Connecting rod cap.

They MUST be installed on the rod they came from and in the original orientation as the ''big end'' of the rod is precision-machined along with it's matching cap.

HOPEFULLY, your rod and cap are match-marked and/or numbered?

it's the same rod cap that came off that connecting rod,i took a closer look at the rod cap, connecting rod and rod caps all have
stamped numbers starting at the radiator with number one and the numbers should all be on the port side of the tractor, thanks for your help, first time digging into a motor, thanks again
one more thing torque to 16 for the connector rods to the cap? thanks again

dave

that is called the connecting rod caps. they are bolted together when they are sized so yes very very important they go on correctly and not
mixed up either! each one is a matched set. what kind of engine?

For the torque of the connecting rod cap the info I have says 16 - 20 ft. lbs. I would go with the 20. If you have the head off my info says 45 - 50 ft. lbs. Valve lash intake and exhaust both 0.013 in. cold.
Dumb questions only come about if you have put something together wrong without asking and then it causes a problem. That is dumb!

awesome! thanks also there is a little tab on the bearings on the side, how are they to be installed? thanks again

Usually the rods and caps are both stamped with the cylinder number as you have found. So the numbers would go together on the same side. If not the bearing locating tabs should also be together one the same side of the circle formed when you install the rod cap. Or in the simplest terms the notch for the bearing tang on the rod side or upper side as installed in the tractor is close to one of the connecting rod bolts. When you install the cap the notch in it should be close to the same bolt. So did the email came through?
