roller rockers

hey guys! ive had the idea of putting roller rockers on the motor im building running across my mind latley, like i said before in earlier posts ive got a m block bored out with 450 sleeves and pistons, there the highcompresion pistons from A&I products and look simalier to what tiscos pistons look like i believe, a brand new 450 lp head with all new valves,450 lp manifold, a new 450 camshaft,electronic ignition,and the motor has stock stroke. would roller rockers be worth putting on to gain hp or are they better? ive seen dennys carb shop sells them for less then what murphys does but would feel better spending a little more buying them from murphys knowing i wouldnt get bad service like the many that have delt with dennys carb shop have. any advice on using roller rockers would be great! thanks for all the help guys its greatly apreciated!

Not all roller rockers are created equil. Dennys rockers are a stock ratio, 1.65, where Murphys rockers are 1.9 & 1.7 ratio. I use the 1.9 on the intake & 1.7 on exhaust. This is because the intake valve is larger than the exhaust valve and can handle more lift.
To see much improvement in power you need to increase compression to capitalize you increased valve lift. The 450
cam will limit your power, a power grind would have been a better option.

Gary, how much more gain do you think you would see in that setup if he changed to a different cam than the 450 stock? I am running the same setup and am looking for a little more.

The higher the compression (within reason) you will increase flow and thats when a cam will help. More flow = more horsepower.

i havent gotten the cam yet but have the part number written down for when i order it and a few other parts for different things.... as im just pulling in a "stock" class if you wanna call it stock theres a couple olivers and johndeeres that i no arent stock but im complaining because i like a little challenge!
what does a cam with a power grind run for money and where abouts getting one? for my setup would a set of the stock roller rockers help any? or would you suggest different?

Just put murpys 1.7 and 1.9 on my u easy install added about some hp on dyno cheap hp considering the cost of other things I do have a mild grind on cam

Has anybody tried a cam from Competition Cams from Memphis Tn. I have one now, haven't got it in yet. You send them all your specs. Compression ratio, valve size, bore, stroke, cfm or flow. and rpm. On a chevy the computer program came within 2 hp of what it really had! Vic

I have one in my 77, picked up 10 hp on the dyno with no other mods and that was at least 20+ years ago. Chuck
