Rolling a hayfield?

I have a 2 acre field that I disked and dragged and broadcasted hayseed in. I went over it with a cultipacker to work the seed in. I was wondering if I went over it with a roller if it would help or hurt it? I have never grown hay before so I appreciate any suggestions. Thanks, Mark

In my little knowledge of hay experience:
If you just planted it, yes. If it has sat for a few days or is really muddy, then no.
Rolling improves the seed to soil contact greatly and smooths out the surface.

My FIL had a home-made roller made from a 300G round tank, filled about 2/3 with ordinary sand. Pulled it with a MF 95. He rolled his pastures and hay fields with it every spring when the ground was somewhat soft but not muddy enough to leave wheel tracks. He even rolled his yard too, sure made for a smooth riding lawn mower all summer.
