Roosa Master JDB

I have a Roosa Master JDB pump on a
John deere 6000 sprayer. This is the
type that when you remove the pump.
The drive shaft stays in the engine.
Something happened causing the engine
to run wild (over speed). This snaped
the drive shaft, thankfully. Shutting
the engine down. I have remove the
pump and it is at the diesel shop. I
actually have a drive shaft from a
slavage engine I used for the block.
It appears there is a small access
plate on the timmimg cove to allow R&R
of the drive shaft with out removing
the entire cover.I have never done
this. Is there anything I should watch
out far? The drive shaft is keyed to
the timming gear it mates with. I am
concerned the gear might fall or jump
a tooth. Thanks in advance for any
help.

It won't fall but don't lose the spring.
