that it is, over 500lbs. made by ROTH INDUSTRIES. i have a complete tractor which was bought new by my grandfather
some time between 1949-1954. this is a hard tractor to
research, not many records. i plan on restoring.

not at this time. i just now have uncovered it after setting for
about 35 years. so was just trying to get some information.
brings back good memories with my grandfather. but i do plan on pictures soon.

My Roths Model W was the first walk-behind tractor I ever got - I was maybe 14 or 15 at the time. Night-and-day difference between the Garden King and other
popular walkbehinds of the day in that they were built like a tank. All cast iron housings, Timken bearings, and a heavy-duty Wisconsin engine. On the flip side
using one gives you a better workout than something like a David Bradley or Simplicity.

I purchased a parts tractor which was branded as a Spiegel Model SW. Must have been just a "peddler" company who sold the re-branded Roths.

There's actually a Wikipedia page for Roths Industries that has a lot of neat information.

Morning Brendon, yes I found the Wikipedia site a few years back.
does have some neat information but real limited on much of any history. after talking with family, tractor was bought new from
Chambersburg Implement Company in Chambersburg PA.
like to know if many are left, how popular they are, and what their worth, but mine is priceless. I have fond memories of my grandfather, even in his seventies he could tractor circles around me, he worked the tractor, but the tractor worked me, LOL

I have a book that shows the Model W and the Model WKS were available in 1949. The W came with a Wisconsin AB, 3HP, engine,
6.00x12" tires, 1 forward and reverse speed and weighted 504 lbs. The WKS had a Wisconsin AKS 5 hp. engine, 6.00x 12" tires, 1
forward and reverse speed, and it weighed 504 lbs. also. It states that the Garden King was made by Roth Industries from Alma, MI.

Morning MtMan; yep, i have an AKS engine, so i assume it's 5hp. and the tires are 6.00 x 12 Armstrong tractor lug tires, so i also assume it was produced 1949 or later. but i feel the exact year my be hard to determine unless i can research off engine serial number which begins with 100???? Which i have not found a site referring to Wisconsin serial numbers.

The serial number of the engine is not a real good way to tell the date of the machine it is on. As someone may have put another
engine on it. If your engine serial does indeed start with 100 , it sure doesn't match up with my list of Wisconsin engine numbers/
If it starts with 100 It would have been made between 1941 and 1942. So you see it doesn't make sense as your machine was probably
made in or around 1949. Hope this helps.

that is correct, but i do know that my grandfather bought this tractor new, but with that being said, the engine may have been changed. i am going more with the tires that are on tractor, 6.00 x 12 withe armstrong tractor lug tire which from what i read was only used after 1949, which i need to replace, but having a hard time removing wheel. thanks rick

back again, the serial number on transmission 8400490 is probably a better way to date this tractor, but i have not seen or been referred to any information to state otherwise, except what i found on Roths Industries, Inc. (19451960)
