Round baler

I'm looking for a 4 x 5 round baler to buy this spring I've found a 648 new Holland and a Vermeer super I both are in great shape. the Vermeer has the wide outside belts. which is a better baler? both around same price.

You have a tough choice. I am looking to update my baler and I have been asking around and have receive a lot of conflicting advice.
The man who runs the repair service I use told me to stay away from balers with a lot of electronics.
I guess the choice may be decided by the dealers that you have near you to provide parts and service. I am also leaning toward a baler with the net wrap system.
I am currently using a Hesston baler and I have been able to get up and running, after a breakdown, in less than a day and that is important because the weather never waits for the farmer.

Having a 505 Super I Vermeer, I can say it has been an excellent baler, and I plan to keep using it for years to come. I don't know much about the Newer New Hollands, but I have an 848 as my backup baler, and it also does a good job for its age. I've seen the Vermeers priced anywhere from $5500-$11,000 I think $11,000 is awfully high, but the machines for $5500 have been pretty well used up in my opinion. I did see a pretty decent one priced at $6900 in Stanchfield, MN. Stopped and looked at that one for fun this last Sunday when the wife and I were driving by.

How many acres of hay do you put up?

I bought an 849 one time and in about half a day, I was tired of those tiny, little bales. Fact is, I'll sell you the baler. :>)

Place called Dordahl Equipment. On highway 65 about 10
miles north of Cambridge MN, or 20 miles south of Mora, MN.
Owned by a guy named Keith Dordahl. Couldn't find a nicer
guy, and his prices are fair in my experiences with buying
there.

I know this is a long shot,my neighbor Bruce who passed in Oct. Has a Vermeer 605 super m I believe,it has gathering wheels and twine wrap. The baler itself has seen very very little use,less than 100 bales a year. He baled with a 1995 jx95 case ih 4x4,the tractor has less than 500 total hours,it may be lower than that. I know she wants to sell the baler,its a 4x5. Just in case of interest.steve

Pretty sure my neighbors NH is a 648. Great baler from what I've seen. NH is known for quality across the board. Vermeer, it's a crap shoot from what people tell me, some are great, others are dogs. Best to check parts support and local service too. NH is hard to beat.
