Anyone knows when the last year the round spokes was used on the B? or was it at some serial #, was the front and rear stopped being used at different times, seems like I was told once the front wasn't used any on the styled? Thanks

Reviewed Duane Larson's presentation on [b:654c4848f0][i:654c4848f0]Wheels Used on John Deere Tractors[/i:654c4848f0][/b:654c4848f0] and found the information below.

Note that these wheels were for 10 spline axles on unstyled tractors.

Take a look at the diagram below.

The pictures was great James, so do you know did them wheels come on your uncle tractor? [ looks good, what size is the rear tires ], I have a 1940 with round on the rear and was wondering if it could have came with them? also would have round spokes been available for the front? If I wanted to change them latter [ and still could be considered original]? Thanks

No, "Uncle Earl" had one 38in. pressed wheel and one 38in. cast wheel when we bought it.

Yes, the round spoke rear wheels were on "Lazarus" our 1940 B when we bought it.

Just to add a little more info to what James said:
French and Hecht produced most of the round spoke wheels that were available on John Deere tractors. In the late 30's Deere and other manufacturers started to move away from the round spoke wheels, in favor of cast center wheels with demountable rims and pressed steel wheels. French and Hecht however continued to produce their round spoke wheels well into the 40's and some wheels were even available into the 50's. Tire companies were still selling F&H wheels and I suspect that many Deere dealers were probably still able to provide them as well. F&H made MANY wheels that you will never find in a Deere parts book.

If you could post pics of your wheels that would be great. The wheels that James has on his tractor look to be the demountable hub type that usually have the casting number 100625 on the hub. These, in my opinion are very nice wheels that started to become available in the mid 40's and could be adapted to A's, B's, and G's with the correct hub. They are designed much heavier than some of the early wheels. The other wheel that you could possibly have with 12 spline axles would have a casting number of HC470 with a letter after (usually "D"). These have the 12 spline hub integral to the wheel center. The only spoke fronts that I'm aware of for the B's would have the casting number HC-176 with a 15' rim. Hope this helps. Post pics if you can.

Agree.

Here's some pictures, if I get it to work, tried to get pictures of the numbers, so if it could have came with front spokes maybe someday I can get a set, I know there not cheap and hard to find.

Very very nice tractor and wheels! You have the exact same wheels that James is showing in his pictures. This is one of the F&H wheels that actually had a JD part number (JD1270R). The B casting number is for the bolt-in hub portion of the wheel. If you look at James' third pic you can see the actual wheel casting number 100625. Yours should be the same. Most sources that I have seen state that these wheels probably weren't available until the mid 40's so they were most likely put on your tractor later. The only way to know would be to have the research done on your serial number to see what it was shipped with. Nonetheless the rears that you have are a very good wheel that was made to retrofit earlier tractors. The spokes and hubs were much heavier to address breakage problems with some of the earlier round spokes. The fronts you have look like they would be correct for when the tractor was built. You can always keep an eye out for front spokes to match.

ecclap your right they are the same as James, I've been looking at some info on them and I think your right on about them being made around 1945, looks like James has a nice set of front also, got my eyes on them lol, thanks for the info. Merry Christmas Everyone: Mike

From what I have read when JD went to the pressed steel front wheels in late model 37 for A&B tractors the factory round fronts were discontinued. That doesn't mean a farmer or dealer couldn't have put them on.
