RPS 34 Thrust Washer Question

Putting the 4890 back together. Just behind the planetary unit is the A154648 Flat Thrust Bearing. Service Manual says to use a Thrust Washer A54021 on both sides of the Bearing and I can only find 1 that I took out. Parts book for both the 4890 and 4894 shows 1 behind, and that's it. Anyone with experience w/ these have any suggestions?

John, don't know anything about the 4890. Don't even know if I've ever seen one. Service manual may be dated?

Joe: Where did you get that page? When I don't have a paper book, I use the CASE On-Line Parts Pages, which in my case are the exact same pages as my paper book and look nothing like what you have posted. Neither the online pages, nor my book make mention of the A54022 bearing, nor the H147785 Washer, but this seems to clear the matter up. The A54022 is a thin bearing, tiny rollers exposed both sides, so a Thrust Washer would be required both sides. The A154648 Bearing is .027" thicker and has the rollers exposed on 1 side, not requiring a Thrust Washer on the other side. Thanks for chiming in.

Use the search box at the very top, 4890. Lots of popups, just close them. Original Case parts catalogs with some updated part nrs. Their part nrs substitutions that I have checked for the older letter + 6 digits p/n's are accurate but I don't have a Parts Substitution List for the newer part nrs. If you enter a part nr in the search box, you may get a list of models that uses that part nr. That list may have some models listed that don't use that part or use a similar/different p/n part. That's not a problem for you John, you'll pick up on that pretty quick, but may be for some of the posters. They have been on-line since about 2017. I am not recommending buying parts from them, I don't and am not going to.

Agreed Joe, they're not much use for ordering parts but their parts lists, diagrams & cross referencing are very useful. Plus, they show NLS parts where Case doesn't even list them online anymore. Someone did a lot of work to build their database.

Another odd puzzler that I lost time on was timing marks not lining up. When I assembled the Ring Gear, the C-2 & C-3 Clutch Piston sits on the C-3 Hub. The Hub & Piston have timing marks punched in and are supposed to be lined up. Problem is, when I line up the timing marks, the splines are off 1/2 spline between the 2 pieces. Pilot shaft would not go through. The only way the splines lined up, as well as the oil ports, was to put the Piston down on top of the Hub 180 degrees off. That's what I did, oil holes line up, but I hope everything works as it should. I wish I would have looked more closely when I disassembled, but this HAS to be the way it came apart and the only way can see that it goes back together.
