I have a RTU that I have converted to 12 volt neg ground and a 2 wire delco alternator. I cant get it to shut off. I have soldered the diode in the alternator wire number one but it still wont shut off. What am I missing? I used an 12 volt no resistor needed coil and have the wire coming from switch and the number 1 wire from the alternator on the + side of the coil and the - side going to the distributor

I put the white line to the Alt side
The diode MAY be shorted, possibly from the heat of soldering IF you made soldered connections at the diode.

What diode did you use, I use 1N5408's, WAY "overkill" for the application, but still CHEAP and readily available.
