RTU stuck in 4th gear

We bought this R about 2 months ago and decided to restore it.I just got it together and wanted to take it down the road.I put it in 4th gear it went in smooth but now its stuck.I hope I don't have to take off the top cover with all the new paint!!!! Any idea's ?? Thanks Jeff

I had some problems with mine after was apart and put back on. You have to make sure the lever gets into the slot in all the shifter rails as you set it down, and all rails in align for Nuetral. I also had mine sticking, thinking it was gonna come apart, but found I had "tension" on the driveline and it kinda held it in place. Make sense? Was using low gears position, and tractor wanted to "roll" ahead, giving tension, and I couldn't pull it back out of gear till I pushed the clutch in and it realeased. Was kinda weird. Otherwise, Yes, think your top comes back off. Check for worn rails and check balls in the shifter assembly, and make sure the whole assembly is bolted or set down into position solidly also.

Thanks for the info on the shift rails I'll check out the springs and detent balls and fork alignment. We took it apart tonite and found out the pto shift forks rollpin sheared and the fork slid off the shaft and was wedged against the side of housing and would not let 4th gear back to neutral. Something new everyday!!Thanks Jeff
