Rubber gear shift lever boot

Finally figured a way to get the boot on the gear shift lever of my 47 2N.
Heated it in the microwave for 30 seconds and it got hot and flexible enough to slip on. Had been struggling with it for over an hour.

The last time I put one on mine, I used boiling water to soften it, then turned it inside out, slipped it down the shaft and turned it right side out. Piece of cake.

(quoted from post at 19:32:04 04/15/12) I found the best solution; buy the wrong part. I got a boot for, I think a MasseyFerguson. It took me 10 seconds to put it on. No microwave, no boiling water, no stretching, just slap it on and go do something else.
Try M/F part number 520858M1

Yeah...I suppose the 5 minutes I spent using the right part could have been put to better use like writing the great American novel or painting my house.

Yeah...that's five minutes of my life I'll never get back again.

nly five? I spent over ten minutes boiling the water, carrying it out to the tractor, stretching - and tearing - the right part. Then I bought the wrong part and it worked perfectly. :D

I wish all the wrong parts I've bought over the years worked so well.

Well, I bought the right part installed it correctly and didn't need to buy another one. So who is ahead here?
