hey guys. got a stock R i put in a few pulls for fun & would like to pull it till it dies, puts on a good show. wondering if this engine is capable of the backward running issue as i suspect, & if so where I can get a cam to prevent it, & also a $ figure for the parts & installation (minus labor) also how long this job would take THANKS!

You could put a camshaft from a late 830 in an R. I think there is an oiling hole that is bit different but they have the same dimensions. also you would want to up the pressure on the transfer pump Paul

Why would you want tp change the camshaft if they are the same demensions? Just bump up the fuel pressure and open the rack more!

guys thanks for the hp increase tips but im more concerned with having it restart backward when i kill it. the crank with only 2 mains is stressed enough at stock hp im afraid, plus i cant afford to shell out those old brittle pistons with the fire chambers in em.

maybe I didn't make myself quite clear enough the injector lobe on the later two cylinder diesels ( 730 and 830)have a different injector lobe . It will not allow the engines to run backward, as easily anyway. The earlier lobes are symetrical and will inject fuel turning foreward or backwards. The newer design is asymetrical and it has a slower let down so as not to inject fuel as easily when turning backwards.the increase in fuel pressure is necessary because there is less time that the injection pump stays at the bottom of stroke or less fill time if you will. clearer maybe Paul

Remember the Decompression lever, just pull it when it dies. We had a 70D I was pulling corn wagons with it I was shifting to 5 th at the bottom of our hill, then I decided to chance it in 6th. bad deal, I didn't know what was happening oil was blowing from the breather, I had pulled the clutch and was holding the brakes, pulled the throttle all the way back and pushed clutch back in. ran backwards and jackknifed wagon. I thought I had ruined it, but it started and pulled itself out of the ditch.

what would it hurt if you shut it off as soon as you could ?i had a 88diesel that would run backwards occasionally while hooked to sled ,though the oil pump was spinning backwards
