Rusty gas tank

Took my gas tank off of the JD 50 that I bought a few months ago, previous owner could not get it to run long without it dying due to alot of rust in tank. So to make a long story short I dumped a gallon of Evapo-rust in the tank last night to try and today the bottom of the tank was as shiny as new, seems to be pretty good stuff and safe to use. Going to buy a few more gallons to help speed up process and then gonna put some red-kote on it. Has anybody else used this product. I just happened to stumble across it on the net. It's also reuseable.

haven't used it, but you are the second person i heard of that reported good results---have an old 9n that might see some of it if I ever decide to get up and at it.

I'm going to have to try this thanks for the tip. The only thing I'm worried about is do you think the product is too strong to use if there isn't a lot of rust? Because the only news I've heard of it working is from you so I'm wondering if I should go with a product that's been used on gas tanks that aren't that rusty.

I been letting it set in the tank for about a day to get my results, because of semi-heavy rust, I would say to do yours if you have very little rust to try an hour first then you could judge it by that. I was told it wouldn't continue to eat away after it dissolved the rust. So far what I have done looks good and is a shiny galvanized look. If you have any questions my e-mail is open. Sometimes I don't always get to this forum on a daily basis. Gregg

i used that evaporust on a rusty carb and attempted on my rusty fuel tank. it cleaned the carb to good as new. the only problem i had when putting it in my rusty tank was letting the product sit on every inch of rust in the tank for a day or so. you said that you found it on the net; Harbor freight sells it for a decent price per gallon too.

After reading about it on the internet. I found it at the local Autozone store here in town. 19.99/gal. Local Fastenal had 5 gal at 80 dollars, so that's what I got. Your right I just rotated my tank everyday to get the coverage on all surfaces. Cleaned it out with a degreaser after using it and put a quart of acetone to help dry up the water and then after about 6 hours more of drying I coated it with Red Kote, that was 2 days ago, today (Friday 30th) I'm reinstalling it and it looks great inside.
