Ryobi 40 volt batteries

my wife uses a 40v ryobi weed wacker at the farm in the orchard, blackberrys and anywhere that needs it. we have 2 40 volt 4ah batteries and she wanted a 3 rd battery. went to home depot, the 4 ah battery was 159.00. the also have the same trimmer we use withe the 40v 4 ah battery, charger and weed wacker for 159.00. both the kit with the battery , charger and weed wacker
for 159.00 .

I saw the same thing with an Echo blower I just bought. The blower, 56v battery and charger were only $9 more than the battery alone and the battery was on sale.

Your lucky, replacement pricing is high because usually your tool is dead. Your tool is still working.
Marketing... Years ago each photo cost over a dollar from my $15 Polaroid. $90 for ink for a $50 printer. $600 to replace battery on a $400 E-bike. Cars aren't immune if there's no aftermarket available. $5600 tail light for a Ford pick up truck.
 
Got the opposite problem. Bought a snowblower-batteries-charger that I hardly ever use. Looked for more tools to utilize the batteries but they all come with batteries and charger.
If batteries were standardized I'd have half as many, they'd cost half as much at half the fire risk .
