S88 running problem

So starting this summer I have been fighting a run problem on my S88. Seemed to be starving for fuel but some times choking helped. So I was going up the neighbors place to bale hay and it died going up my driveway hill. Finally got it up the hill and to his place. Started baling and it started to act up again. Tried a number of thing and then finally took the gas lien off the carb and found very little flow. Back blew the line and it run fine for one bale then trouble again. Tomorrow I'll have to drain the tank and then remove the sediment bowl assembly and see if I can clean it up. Got a bit to hot and also a bit of a sun burn trying to get it to run right. If I had, had a can or jar etc. to catch the gas I would have tried the carb drain plug check but I did not have one and di not want to dump gas on the neighbors field

Check your fuel tank petcock. Many manufacturers had a screen mounted to the end of the petcock that is inside the tank.

Sounds like something in the tank. Try to look in there one time I found a piece of a small stick (must have been measuring the gas) one time a oat hull, one time a fly. you'll probably will end up taking the tank off.

GOOD LUCK!

No screen. What is happening is the sediment bowl assembly has an open hole at the bottom of the tank and some junk has fill that hole up and when I blow into the tank I can blow some of it out but then it just fill back in. I will have to pull the sediment bowl off clean it out real good then put it back on. The bottom of the tank is pretty clean so I figure it is junk that over the years has gotten in by way of gas cans

I bought a new sediment bowl for my 770. The opening was designed so it would only let small pieces of sediment through. I opened it up so the bigger pieces would flow through. I would rather have them in the sediment bowl than the tank. I have put risers in them to but my new thinking is to let it flow through.

I pulled the sediment bowl assembly this morning and took it apart and found a big flack sort of thing in the valve area. My think is that it would move as I baled hay and then cut off the fuel flow. Put it back on put in 5gal of gas and took off and did not have any more fuel problems.
