can the safety relief valve be replaced
without removing hydraulic pump on a 8n.

the relief valve can be replaced.. though i find it easier to pull the pto shaft to do so.. but if you have bent wrenches.. don't even have to do that.

having small hands and flexible bones helps though..

imho.. the 25 cent gasket and 4 bolts to slip the pto shaft out make for a faster job vs working around the pto shaft... park nose down a bit so you don't loose oil. as fo rhte pto gasket.. that one you could rtv up with no ill effects.. kinda buggery.. but would be ok..

Yes.

Some relief valves are quite easily replaced if you have the needed curved box-end wrenches (or can heat and bend one) while others take some finessing to remove the cotter key so that you can get the wrench(es) in place.

Ie will be easier if you drain the oil and remove both inspection covers.

repaired mine in about 15 minutes 0n 1951 8n using the method that dunk suggested just be sure and pull both inspection plates makes it go alot smoother.I liked the bent wrench better than the stubby.

Resurrecting this old thread. I need to replace the safety valve. Dunks' answer sends to a site that no longer exists. Can anyone clue me into the secret?
