sand blasting

I"m wondering has anyone ever sand blasted without totally disasembling? I"m not looking for restoration quality, just want to knock the junk off and give a quick spray. My brother had his john deer done this way and it turned out pretty nice. what are critical things to seal to keep sand out?

Any & all areas are critical when it comes to sandblasting a tractor . When I did my 8n less engine , I taped everyplace possible to avoid sand getting inside anywhere .All my efforts went unsuccessful . I had to tear it down further just to clean out the insides of sand & dust . I don't advise it .HTH ! God bless

If you have a good pressure washer with hot water buy a turbo nozzle it will take off a lot of gunk. But still be care full water will penetrate seal's but water can be drained not like sand. Then when it looks good brush it down with some aluminum acid. Most places with trucks have this for washing there wheel's and tank's The acid will eat rust take off grease and your primer will stick.Prime as soon as it is dry surface rust will start right away. Be care full not to get it in your eyes or on your skin it will burn. Do not get it on any glass or it will turn it white. A little hand sanding will still be required hear and there. This does work good. But be very very care full with the acid so you don't get it on your self.

There is a company in my town that does 50000 PSI water blasting. The manufacturing companies use them to clean equipment. I am thinking about gettting them to blast instead of sand.

This something you"ve obviously tried and been successful? When it eats the rust what can I expect to see to know that it is working? I would really like to clean this thing up as easily as possible and so far this seems like the best way. I don"t have the luxury of taking it out of comission for a real ling time.

The acid will foam and a brown color will start to form when it's eating the rust. It help's to scrub bad spot's or all with a scrub brush. When clean the metal will have a gray look like new And some time a more dark look depending how long you have to leave it on. When done you will still have to hand sand any paint chip's out of hood and fender's or they will show up. Acid wont eat the paint very fast more or less just dull it .
PS try it on a old piece of metal first if you want to see how it works??
