Saved a Foot Clutch SC

Saved this guy from going to the crusher this weekend. It has been sitting since 1972, one of the sons said his dad stopped using it then when he bought a new John Deere 820 and thinks the clutch may have been out of it as he had a brand new disc for it in the garage that he gave me with it.

From what I can tell the tractor has not been used that much based on pedal wear and the drawbar, but the engine is stuck solid I imagine from water entry. I will update here as I get time to mess with it but if it needs a whole lot it will probably be put out to pasture for parts right now as we have another one that actually runs.

Sure looks like it is pretty straight yet. If you can get the engine loose, some new tires, it could be a pretty nice little tractor again.

Yea, I am definitely gonna give it a try, pulling the plugs and filling it with some penetrating oil for the time being is pretty low effort. Dad bought a '52 that was locked up and we had it free in like 6 days. He jacked one side of the rear up and put the transmission in 4th and we would rock on it several times every time we walked by it.

I’m not sure, someone in the FB group said it was for a loader frame. Where is your block at? This one has cracked and been repaired behind the carb. It’s holding well though cause despite it sitting for so long it’s completely full of antifreeze

Live PTO & Dual Valve Hyd's. Sweet!! In 1988 I bought 1 just like it but was in rougher condition than yours. Engine had to be totally rebuilt. It took 8 years for me to completely restore it, but we use it here today. Sweet runner!!

Looks like a nice straight tractor. But with that broken muffler off for who knows how long u May as well start taking the head off. Soaking is a complete waste of time. It’s been sitting for over 50 years. So probably need the whole engine gone through. One good rain going down the manifold and the engine is stuck in a matter of days. And if it got lots of rain into the sleeves they also will be split open from freezing. So get your wrenches ready.

It’s been sitting for over 50 years. So probably need the whole engine gone through. One good rain going down the manifold and the engine is stuck in a matter of days. And if it got lots of rain into the sleeves they also will be split open from freezing. So get your wrenches ready.

I have a John Deere B that I was certain would be in the same shape, sitting out in the weather with exhaust open for the better part of 20 years and I had it turning after soaking for 4 days. I siphoned about a quart of water out of the right cylinder. I still pulled the head to clean all junk out of the cylinders.

I have its big sister in a DC that you helped me out with a few years ago. I’ll probably be hitting you up for parts when I get some time to mess with it.

Dad bought another one from a salvage yard before my time just to get the block out of it cause at the time the dealer around here only had the late model sleeves and pistons and he was trying to put his ‘43 back together. The rear half is still sitting down behind the barn almost 40 years later. We also have another ‘54 model one that runs so this makes 3 foot clutch SCs that we have.

I am hoping the bores aren't too trashed from water getting in the exhaust but after 52 years its hard to tell. I have a about 3 other tractors in front of it that need similar help so I gotta fight the urge to tear this one down too before the others are running lol.

Winter project 8-12 hours a day in the shop 7 days a week. She will be like new by spring You will be happy!

John Saeli or Don Livingston, both are active on this forum. Pretty sure Don has a set listed on his eBay, he did at one time anyway.

'54 S&P's are different from the '44. Rusty Acre (Don L.) has them for both engines. 507-433-0073
