Saved one from the scrapper!

I bought a 73 3400 industrial with front loader and backhoe for $1100.00. Engine locked up, what's the best thing to put in cylinders to free up? The guy I bought it from said he put brake fluid in cylinders and tried pulling it in gear but it hasn't worked. I said tranny fluid in cylinders and wait, then maybe try pulling. What's your advice? All input greatly appreciated. Mike

Several yrs ago I bought a 1952 8n with an original 6 cyl OHV Funk conversion . It had set in the weeds uncovered for over 25 yrs . It was locked up it took abought a month to free - up the pistons . First I sprayed PB Blasted in each spark plug hole (several times) . Each day I'd try to turn it over by hand . Then I shot some diesel fuel into each hole , let it sit for a few days while trying to turning by hand . Occassionally I'd shoot more more diesel in the holes . Finally it broke loose . But , I didn't try starting it until I tok the head off to exam the cylinders . After seeing the ridge in the cylinders , I decided to tear it down totally for a rebuild (no regrets) . The bore ended up being .060 in order to remove the marks . I do not regret having the patience while yet saving additional damages . So I hope this helps . God bless, Ken

Brake fluid??? Seriously?

Use ATF. It"s is both a good lubricant as well as a penetrant (when mixed with a solvent) AND a cleaner.

I would add a mix of 50-50 ATF and diesel. 3 oz every day or two. Wait a week and start trying to break it free. You can use a big breaker bar on the crank bolt (but it may unscrew or tighten) or put it in 4th and rock it. Can engage the PTO and then try to turn the PTO stub with a big wrench

Gas or diesel??? If gas fill the cylinders out with ATF after you have blown each cylinder out. Then if it has the upright type exhaust and after you put the plugs back in pour as much ATF down the exhaust as it will hold. By doing that you get it to all the exhaust valves which helps free them up. If it is a diesel use turpentine and ATF mixed 50/50
