SC Crank Pulley Removal

I'm trying to get the crank pulley off my 41 SC.
There's was a pin thru the pulley and crankshaft, which I was able to remove, but the pulley doesn't want to budge with that big puller on it. I'm afraid of snapping the crank pulley in half. Am I missing something, or is it just afraid of separation after 70 years of being mated with the crankshaft?

Morning Tom, Make sure the threaded rod you have there has a cleanpoint on the end and is centerd on the shaft. put about 70 foot pounds of pressure on the puller and spray with kroil oil ,and let her set a bit.After a little bit, apply a little heat with some mapp gas around the hub. The idea is to expand the hub without letting the crnk shaft grow in size with the hub. Hope that helpsI

Thanks Chuck. I left the puller on over night with tension on it, and used lots of WD-40 on it.
I was going to use the torch as a last resort.
The front seal didn't appear to be leaking, but suppose I should replace it anyway. Just wanted to get the pulley off so I could clean and paint the engine easier.

You should use a split bearing separator behind the pulley and pull from the separator so you don't break the pulley. Some of the posters on the Farmall forum have pullers made at their local metal shop using a hydraulic ram or bottle jack. I have pics somewhere. Hal

The crank pulley came right off this morning after sitting all night with tension on the puller. That homemade puller with the jack gives me an idea though, for getting the flat belt pulley off the side, as my two arm puller's arms are too short. A bearing seperator has been on my wish list for some time, but then again, so has "winning the lottery".

I had the same troubles with a belt pulley. Had an old metal master come over and 5 minutes it was off.

First put a large pry bar between the pulley and the case (I used a 6' digger bar). Pull away from the trans case and smack the center with a large punch and big arse hammer. It only took a smack or two and the thing popped off. I had already slightly bent it out of shape trying to pull it off with a puller. Good luck. You could also try heating the center hub before giving it a huge smack.

I refrained from smacking the crankshaft nut with a big hammer, as I didn't want to "take out" the thrust bearing on the crankshaft. (assuming it has one).
I still want to remove the flat belt pulley, so may try your suggestion using my 5' lineman's bar and the "big" hammer!
