Not sure how many of you guys know there are at least 2 different SC heads. I pulled the high compression off a couple years ago and put it on the shelf. The other one is a standard compression. If you look at them it is hard to see the difference in the compression chamber. Probably just 15-20 cc?s worth of difference. High compression is 5617A and standard is 5618A.

I think one was for gas & the other was for kerosene. Case didn't make many SC kerosene burners, they had shutters, a small gasoline starting tank fastened under the hood towards the front & a different manifold. I have a '44 that has the starting tank & kerosene manifold. The shutters are gone. I don't remember the head casting #, but it's different than my nephew's '47 w/o the starter tank on the hood. jal-SD

Case actually had three different cylinder heads for the SC. Part numbers listed below.

Distillate (kerosene) cylinder head: 5618A
Gasoline cylinder head: 5617A
High compression (propane/high altitude) cylinder head: A5617A

The A5617A heads are quite difficult to find. There are a lot of 5618A distillate heads laying in salvage as many people have swapped over to the 5617A gasoline heads.

As stated above (or below), the distillate tractors also had a different manifold with a heating valve, a manifold shield, a gasoline starting tank, and radiator shutters.

I knew you would have more information. I appreciate it. I?ll leep my eyes open for the A5617A. Thanks
