Scan Tool Cruise Control

Hey an OBD Scan Tool is a TOOL right........Just an FYI in case anyone encounters what I just did concerning the Cruise Control on my Chevy Pickem Up (while similar on many vehicles).

So I noticed CC wasnt working on my Chevy Pickup and just as I expected when I got home discovered the Brake Lights weren't working either (been there done that, got the T Shirt). My first instinct (after bulbs which were okay) pointed to the brake light switch which my trusty ohm meter found to be defective,,,,,,,,,,,,,Replaced it, now brake lights worked fine and all fuses were good,,,,,,,,Still no CC,,,,,,,,A Code Scanner revealed the past (even though now fixed) problem, cleared the code NOW CC WORKING YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY Once the computer saw no brake lights it disabled the CC which stayed disabled until reset MODERN TECHNOLOGY !!!!!!!!!!

John T Still one contented, at peace, and Happy Camper. On all my vehicles even if older (ESPECIALLY the RV) I like everything to work, that's just me, it's in my DNA and how I'm wired..........

one other odd CC problem that affected my traction control and ABS... cruising down the interstate and all the lights come on the dash and it fell out of CC. did it several times during a drive... Finally stopped at a quick mart and checked around... found my brake fluid jjjjuuuusssst below the sensor and the curves and hills caused the fault... bought a bottle of quick mart 7 buck brake fluid and topped it off...all ok after that.

I've never heard of any vehicle that needed a history code to be cleared for speed control to work again and I've replaced dozens of brake on/off switches on GM vehicles. What I suspect is the computer might have to see at least two ignition key cycles or maybe a few more, and possibly a couple miles of driving to self test and confirm the switch is operating normally.

I hear you, I drove it several times and several miles with many many ON and OFF ignition cycles waiting
and hoping for a cure which never came grrrrrrrrrrrr until the code was cleared (fixed it INSTANTLY).. OH
WELL Im just glad that fixed it and wanted to pass this on.....

Older GM had to reset code on low a/c pressure to recharge the system

A few less repeated commas, periods and exclamation points would be great! Oh forgot, your a lawyer. Then you might have actually had room to include the actual YEAR of the pickup?

That brake switch was an easy repair for me. Auto repair shop wanted a couple hundred dollars. Glad your cruise is controlled again.

Good tips here. We'll see if that would work on the Chevy pickup my uncle is looking at. CC isn't working after light bulb replacements. It's in the shop for the installation of the new tires from 4Wheelonline, we'll try that when it returns from the shop.
