Got this Schindler front axle on the 7600. Does anyone know where the hub oil
is supposed to go in these? Would the wheels have to come off?

I don't know about that particular axle, but from the pictures, it looks like it would be a sealed greasable bearing like the one in that parts drawing. If it would take oil, then I would think that it would have a fill plug and drain plug that would be accessible without removing the wheel.

There is a vent cap on top (visible in the first pic), and that black stuff on
the U-joint definitely smells and feels like old oil. So to me that suggests
there should be oil in there (and that the seal is leaky...)

If I had to guess, I'd say the center bolt would be the fill/level plug. But
I'm a bit hesitant to remove anything without knowing what's behind it.

Had a closer look, there is actually a bolt on the bottom. It was obscured by
dirt. That has to be the drain plug then, and surely the center bolt would be
the fill plug. Now I just need some large allen keys.

Just drained both sides. Left side, some nasty black oil came out with lots of
glitter. Right side, nothing. Poking my finger in, it seems someone filled up
the whole thing with grease!

Not sure what to do now. Just add oil and hope the grease will dissolve
eventually?

Or could that have been done on purpose to work around leaky seals?
