Schrade Old Timer

Years ago I had a Schrade Old Timer # 858 pocket knife and lost it some where. Could not find another one. Was at an auction today and there was a new one, in the box with the leather carrying case for the belt. Think I'll weld a chain to this one so I don't lose it

Not any more. Schrade closed it's doors about 3 years ago. Taylor Brands bought the name some time later, but the knives are all Taiwan now. Taylor Brands markets a number of brand names, including Smith & Wesson knives.

This knife is made in the USA. The guarentee was for 1 or 2 years against lost and it was not on the Old Timer

'Bout ten years ago, I found a Leatherman tool on a street in a neighboring town. Had become my almost constant pocket companion since. Use it daily, sometimes several times a day. Lost track of it about two weeks ago. Thought it was lost while fertilizing a field with a broadcast fertilizer spreader. Thought I'd slipped it out of my pocket when I went for box cutter knife to slit a fertilizer bag. Spent several hours searching for it.

Son found it in the workshop last night - must be I used it for something, and laid it down... Man am I relieved. Had another wannabe tool that I was carrying, but it just didn't do as well. Relieved to have old one back.

I lost too many good knives over the years.usually cutting baler twine in te winter.

now all i carry are $5 stanly box cutters, never lost one yet.
you go figure.

My favorite knife is a Schrade Ramrod 98OT. It is small enough to fit in your pocket and large enough to be useful. I have had a knife in my pocket since about age 8 and a Ramrod since my late teens. They would throw me out of school for carrying a weapon these days.

I bought up a half dozen on ebay when I found out Schrade had gone belly up. I guard them carefully.

My knife is currently missing. I just saw that Taylor brands had re-introduced the Ramrod to the market. I have been trying to decide whether to bring one out of my reserve or buy a new one. I am debating how good the Chinese version really is.

I am still hopeful the one I lost will turn up.

You can get new in box old timers and uncle henrys on ebay, unfortunately the prices are being bid up. People crave those solid American products and felt nostalgic about schrade knives real fast. I could not get excited about one of those China made knives.

I have only had 3 knives since I graduated from HS 48 yrs ago. my grandfather gave me an 8 OT which I wore out, replace it with another and wore it out and on the third one my son found in an old store 10 yrs ago. He laughed and said this one should last me until they take it away from me in an old folks home, (damn kid, and it is getting closer all the time) I have bought 2 of the old ones on ebay and keep then in case I live to 120. Don"t even bother to buy one of the china made junk. Someone gave me one knowing that I like knives, I fooled with it for several weeks, nothing but junk, and gave it to a young boy who thought he had a prize.

I just found my Leatherman yesterday, I was mowing weeds where I had stored big bales, looked down and there it was. I lost it about 3 years ago. Cleaned it up, looks like new. I didn"t think I would ever see it again.
