scraping and the zane thang

I am new to tractoren and have a question. on my 2n when I scrape my driveway I have a hard time regulating the blade high to account for the movements of the tractor. Will a zane thang help? and what does it ready do? Remember I am learning and don't understand a lot of the terms used here.

Zane Thing will help a lot. Right now you only have draft control with that tractor. It useful for plowing only. The Zane thing will give you position control, which allows to keep the implement at any desired height.

The ZaneThang is just a feedback linkage that connects the lift handle to the lift arms. When the lift arms are forced up it moves the control lever down to comepnsatae and vice-versa. Just an automagical mechanical version of what you are now doing manually.

i have the "zane thang" on my 2N and it works fine for maintaining height of a backblade once you get it adjusted to the height you want. i highly reccomend it.

Zane's thang will keep the blade at a constant heighth, which means it will follow the tractor's up and down over the bumps - Bob's suggestion of shoes on the blade to let it follow the driveway contours in a full down position would work better, I would think. I do that going forward and then level it out by pushing the blade backwards on mine.

When grading you often want the blade to remain at a constant height relative to the tractor in order to level out high/low spots rather than follow them. That is when position control is needed.

This is my version, pretty inexpensive. I adjust blade height with toplink. wouldn't be great with uneven terrain.

Problem is... that although my Zane-Thang is the greatest thing I've done to my tractor... the blade will not move relative to the TRACTOR...but as the tractor goes over small bumps/dips the blade with exacerbate the tractor movement and dig deeper/shallower...and will not "grade"...if that is your intention.
Road maintaineers (graders) have mid-blades to avoid that problem.

Your driving the wrong direction - spin the blade around and grade in reverse
