Screwdrivers

So as not to hijack the post below I am starting a new one. On the subject of screwdrivers. There is no such thing as a flat head screwdriver. Only FLAT HEAD screws. Flat head screws may have a SLOTTED head and require a SLOTTED BLADE, or FLAT BLADED screwdriver.

Screw drivers: they are either a PLUS (+) or a MINUS (-)

Work with someone from around the world and ask them for a flathead or a Phillps screwdriver and see what they say.

(quoted from post at 10:19:55 02/24/23) Personally, I prefer the Robinson head screwdriver, Good day Eh !

Agreed: whenever possible, I get these. The Torx type is a second choice. I avoid Phillips whenever possible and use slotted screws for period applications on my ACW gear.

Always called them a straight blade or Phillips. Do like torx or robertson or allen head better that Phillips.

Bruce ......... a Canadian invention so I've been told for many years but this link below 'sort of' confirms that but I wouldn't bet on it. Oh ..... spelled Robertson by the correct police .... ha!

If they don't have a hex head like a bolt they will when I get done. I hate all of the options flat blades twist either the slot in the screw or the blade. Phillips just strip the end of the screwdriver off, and then get cut out or punched out. Torx suck I have had the bits strip the ears off the sides and not turn the screw out so then have to grind off the end some or replace the bit with a new one. Allen heads will just strip out the hex and then wind up being cut off or out. Regular hex head screws either work or they get a bolt. No ands ifs or butts.

Post hole pounder, now thats funny!

Reminds me of the story about the tornado that was so strong that it took out a row of post holes a guy had just dug.

Hmmn? The tips on my flat head screwdrivers are flat and since I'm holding the handle that makes the flat tip the head thus flathead is correct.

Personally I call them a straight screwdriver. Less confusion that way. Lol

I asked a non-technical guy to hand me a screw driver. He asked me plus or minus? That took me a while...........
