Sealing surface for rear main seal problem

I just loosened up my crankshaft and got the old rope seal out of my 860 and wanted to slip in a new neoprene seal but the surface on the crank has some surface rust on the sealing surface and I would like to know how I can clean it up enough to work with the neoprene seal or am I going to have a leaking issue?

Maroon Scotch-Brite pads for surface rust always works for me.

If it's smooth when you're done, it should seal okay.
