Sears Custom 7 Tractor (problem)

I'm bragging up my Sears Custom 7 garden tractor.Although it may not look like much, this is my pride and joy.
It had a 7 HP B&S but the recoil went out and I couldn't find parts for it any more so I put on the only engine I had witch was a 16 or 18hp (not sure witch) B&S off of a old generator.
The tires are off of a old trencher and they just happen to bolt right on with no modifications,
I had the smoke stack setting around so I thought it's not a tractor with out a smoke stack:).
The tractor can pull a 4' disk< 3' three row spring tooth and a 8' rake. I have got a single bottom plow but haven't yet made the modifications for it to fit.
I am in the middle of building a loader for it but I need to save up for the lifting cylinders, if all gos right it should be able to lift 7' in the air and it's going to be reversible so it can be on the back for lifting heavier things with out bending the front axles.(will post more pics when it's done)The problem is when it's running for any amount of time, then when I shut it off, it won't start again? it runs GREAT when it's running, it's just if I can get it to run. If I let it sit for about 4 hours then it fires right up first pull.It is a pull start not electric and it doesn't have a recoil it's the old style were you got to wrap the rope around the pulley, so it gets really tiresome pulling on it all day.I just got a NEW carburetor on it, I don't know if it needs adjusted or what the problem is.
Thanks all

cool , i mowed with a custom 7 tecumseh for 28 years, still have it.you might see if there is spark when it wont spark.maybe valve adjustment. lucas

You can't get any thing better then those old Garden Tractors.

I bought a used, 2002 Cub Cadet at action and it was the biggest piece of junk I've ever seen. The engine (Kohler 18hp 2 cylinder gas) was so encased in the hood and side panels it kept missing out, it was getting so hot the plastic around the steering shaft was all melted. then I took off the hood and it ran fine. then we couldn't keep a belt on going from the front PTO to the mower deck, it just broke them as fast as we could put them on :( They don't make things like they used too

Thanks for the info on the valves needing adjusted, I forgot to say that the other week it quit and had no compression? then the next day it had compression and it has been running fine. (besides the not starting when it was shut off)I figured it was a valve that got stuck then some how unstuck it's self. It douse not smoke or burn oil.
