Called Sears parts order line and told the spring was discontinued. Tried two other supply houses for mower parts, only one thought they could get it. Turns out they couldn't. This is for a 42 in. deck on a 10 hp, 1973 model mower. Spring is 5 in. from inside of hook to inside of hook. One hook turns into center of coil, other turns away from center. Coil is 3/4 in. OD. Thought there might be a cross reference somewhere. Hate to lose the use of the mower for this minor problem!
