Sears trip plow issues

Hello. I have a 2-14 Sears Roebuck trip plow that I have never had good luck with the plow consistently lifting out of the ground. The spring that holds the lifting roller against the drive hub broke shortly after I got it. I do not believe it was the original spring. Anyways, I replaced it with a similar spring and lined the whole lift mechanism with moly grease. It has always given me fits lifting out of the ground. I tried putting a stronger spring in there, then the spring that locks the plow up in transport position wasn’t strong enough to counter the internal spring. So I took it all back apart tonight and looked carefully for wear, and there is hardly any wear on the drive hub and roller. I guess my thought now is that all the moly grease I put in there has made the lift mechanism not have enough traction to work with a reasonable spring tension. I’ve had the plow for several years and it gets frustrating and I haven’t been able to find any kind of literature on it.

Thanks for any help,
Dan

Do not grease the trip mechanism

That would look good being pulled behind my 1938 Sears Roebuck tractor. I had a JD 2-14 trip plow that I pulled with it . I had similar problem with that plow. I rigged a stronger spring to put more tension on the lifting clutch.

Google " Who built farm equipment for Sears Roebuck". Seems like Graham-Paige later Graham Bradley made some equipment. ? It's kind of a vague area of manufacturers . The tractor that I have was built by Peru Wheel co. .

I read somewhere that it could be an Oliver???

Sears sold Oliver plows and discs for a few years in the late 50s, but the one in the picture isn't one of them.

I found a few more pics of my plow if someone recognizes the make.

Sears bought the David Bradley Manufacturing Company factory in 1910 and made some of the Bradley-branded farm equipment like this plow themselves into the 50s. The DB factory switched to making only lawn and garden equipment and eventually became a George D. Roper Corporation facility. Sears sourced other David Bradley branded equipment, like the wagon running gears and elevators, from outside. I don't know of a comprehensive list of who made what.

The spring to lever is bent in photo , spring is damaged .
The pressure of the roller must over come the internal spring of the lifting cam to lock it up. Yours does not appear to be strong enough to do that in photo do to spring and damage to lever.
Details in photo isn’t enough to comment any more than this . Suggest better photos.
I feel confident that the plow lift and drop with the lever if it is correct.
Also both tires ned to be exactly the same diameter or it will affect plow setup for moldboards to there job. Will plow to deep with that smaller diameter. The lift tire is a radial ? It will slip in soil further compound the issues .
