After 5 years of renting my 25 acres out, I am going to plant it myself in the spring, my question is I have a IH 56 plate planter, can I still buy seed that will work with the plates?
I have round and flat plates.

Graded seed is still available from most seed companies. Most companies offer at least a medium round, a medium flat, and plateless seed sizes. Plateless is a mix, or ungraded, and not for use with a plate planter. Some have more variety in sizes, some less. I've run into at least one that their bags list 80,000 kernel count and weight only.

A few older seed companies still have a variety of IH & JD plates around if you don't have the right size, and will rent/lend/give them to you if you purchase the seed from them.

I use an old Allis 2 row planter, and usually have my seed by the end of march. I still have time to read the bags, and see which plates I need, and order approprate seed plates from Lincoln. Most plates can be ordered from them, and shipped fairly fast.
