Self Manufacturing Company

Does anyone know anything about the Self Manufacturing Company out of Twin Falls, SD? My Dad found a rear mounted manure fork for the Ford N series made by them, but I can't find anything about it. I don't have the pix at the moment, but I will get them and post as soon as possible.

I know what you have. Years ago back in late 40's Dad borrowed a loader and when he had it they took it to a blacksmith and built a copy that we used for years and still have. Around 10 years ago I found one like he had borrowed to use as a pattern and it was in a machinery parts yard that was selling out at auction and I got it bought. That loader is pictured in a hardcover book on Ford tractors and they do not know what it is. My book is misplaced now or could give you more information. Have you tried to mount it yet. It does not mount as you would think it should. You use the 11 hole cross drawbar for the 3 point arms and that is simple BUT IT DOES NOT HOOK WHERE THE TOP LINK FASTENS TOO. If yoy try to put a pin in the top link bracket it will not work, the one I bought is butchered there as someone at one tine tried doing just that. The rocker that the top link fastens to has a pin thru the bottom that fastens to the differential housing and you take that pin out and substitude a longer one that came with the loader and hook it there on a rigid spot, it does not use the draft control spring, that is locked out. You do not have very much lift capacity and the standard horse pulled spreader would not lift high enough to fully dump a load, one person would stand at spreader with a hook type fork to help with the unloading but it was still a lot easier and faster than loading by hand. Dad found a booster cylinder that mounted on the left side of the tractor and that doubled the breakaway capacity. I have no idea who made that booster cylinder but some aftermarket company and it was used when Dad got it. Dad has been gone since 92 and still miss him. I am now 66. It is a 1944 2N that Dad bought new that the loader was used on but for a while had a TO 30 Ferguson and had it on there. Still have that 2N.
